Our Eighteenth Annual Cancer Progress
Conference, the premier cancer forum for executives in the pharmaceutical and
biotech communities, took place on March 6-7 in New York. This year's focus was on research into the molecular basis of cancer
and advances in targeted therapies. World class scientists, top oncology-focused
executives and leading financial analysts addressed new approaches and
strategies, and provided perspectives on technical and commercial rationale.
Presentations and panels offered cutting-edge insights and vital practical
information.
Oncology therapeutics are poised to become the world's largest drug category. Worldwide spending on cancer medications is expected to more than double from $24 billion in 2004 to $55 billion in 2009 according to IMS Health. Identifying particular molecular mechanisms in and on the cancer cell that support cancer growth and designing single or multiple inhibitors to block them is a major focus for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Targeted therapies now constitute about 30% of the market. Many of these agents inhibit multiple pathways and/or are small molecules providing for oral administration. This hallmark conference will address fundamental issues in the research and development of targeted cancer therapies. Presentations and panels at this conference are geared for executives concerned with the big picture in oncology research, development and commercialization. The intimate atmosphere yields lively audience interaction and groundbreaking discussions. Networking is at its height throughout the conference, which includes continental breakfasts, refreshment breaks, luncheons, cocktail reception, plus as a special feature, the Second Annual Albert Szent-Gyorgyi Prize Award Dinner. We were honored to have as sponsors for 2007 The Mattson Jack Group, The National Foundation for Cancer Research, Merck, Genentech, Wyeth and Gene Network Sciences.
