Cancer Progress |
Cancer Progress 2005, the
premier cancer conference for executives in the pharmaceutical and biotech
community, was held at the Essex House in New York on March 7-8, 2005. Now in its sixteenth year,
this conference features distinguished speakers, expansive audience interaction,
uncluttered scientific overviews and insightful perspectives on technical and
commercial rationales for new avenues of research. Slides from most speakers
will be posted on this site shortly. Password access will be provided to all
participants.
Cancer therapy
remains the most active area of research and development in the pharmaceutical
industry. Persistent and innovative efforts are generating an ever- broader
understanding of the biological and cellular mechanisms which affect tumor
formation, growth and metastasis. Zealous early-stage research
has yielded an unprecedented number of compounds in clinical studies,
many of which will dramatically impact the practice and outcome of cancer
therapy. Therapeutics that target specific tumor cell populations, interact with
key signaling pathways, and selectively interfere with biological growth
mechanisms promise to improve treatment efficacy while circumventing peripheral
consequences. New programs, franchises and companies are spawning from these
efforts.
This hallmark conference assembles leading researchers and clinicians to discuss areas of cancer research which can revolutionize cancer therapy. Presentations are targeted to business development, marketing and R&D executives who are concerned with the big picture in oncology drug research and development. Discussions emphasize the merits, challenges and opportunities of important scientific approaches and project new directions for exploration. Stimulating panels of industry executives, clinicians and analysts spark intriguing discussions of the possibilities and ramifications of specific areas of drug research. Networking is at its height throughout this two-day conference, which includes continental breakfasts, refreshment breaks, luncheons, and a Monday evening cocktail reception.
